Hello Visitor,

As you have all witnessed, the past week has seen the COVID-19 scenario rapidly evolve. Over many Board discussions, both individually and with TSANZ, the decision to postpone the ASM was extremely difficult but necessary.

The decision was made, primarily, to protect you and your colleagues, as frontline healthcare professionals. We understood that attending the meeting was increasingly difficult for many members. We also considered that if an ASM delegate tested positive to COVID-19, it could cripple respiratory departments nationally and internationally due to the required 14-day isolation period following exposure. This was not a risk the ANZSRS was willing to take considering the vital role of our departments during the current pandemic.

I would like to publicly thank my fellow ANZSRS Board Directors for their work, patience and availability over the past couple of weeks. They have worked tirelessly, in and outside of work hours, to help make the right decisions at the right time. I think we have achieved that for our society. I also need to thank those members who have sent through messages of support to the Board during this time. It is greatly appreciated. And to our LOC, thank you for your work to create the 2020 program. One could say it was looking like the best, ever! We hope this can be replicated in 2021!

The Board would also like to publicly thank Tanya Buchanan (TSANZ CEO) and Kim Van Duiven (The Conference Company) for maintaining clear and open communication with ANZSRS as the situation changed so rapidly. It made making difficult decisions all that bit easier.

Our sponsors, who are vital to the success of our meeting, are to be applauded for their patience and understanding as we worked toward our decision to postpone the meeting. I encourage you all to show your appreciation at the Trade Exhibition during the 2021 ASM.

Over the weeks and months to follow, please visit the ANZSRS website for updates on the postponement of the 2020 ASM, and for details on the 2021 ASM.

Finally, everyone loves a good birthday and celebrating our society’s 40th birthday was going to be special. But good things come to those who wait! So, I look forward to seeing you all in 2021 to celebrate a very special 41st birthday.

I look forward to seeing you all in 2021 for what promises to be a big year for our society!

Stay safe!

Jarrod Warner

President
