  Hello Visitor,

Last Wednesday was a real treat for the local members for our September branch meeting. We were lucky enough to have the meeting offsite and enjoy a meal together, thanks to Bird healthcare. Apologies to those who were unable to attend in person, unfortunately we were unsuccessful in our attempts to record the meeting however I have attached the slides for later perusal.

The first speaker for the evening was Dr John Aukes from Greenslopes Hospital who spoke about Exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage. Dr Aukes took us through a very interesting case presentation of a patient who was ‘pushing the limits’ and presented to his department on two separate occasions. Dr Aukes took us through the pathophysiology in humans (and horses) of this rare condition.

The Scientist speaker was Nadia Preller from Breathwell center who spoke about the relationship between COPD and OSA. Her talk was well presented and entailed an overview of COPD and OSA, and how COPD affects sleep and vice versa. Nadia spoke about how her Lab screens for these patients as well as the treatment options they use.

Make sure you all check out the most recent Library Corner here which was submitted by Ewan Grobbelaar from Mackay Base Hospital.

For all other branch news, check out my slides which are also attached for important upcoming grant and CRFS dates.

Kind regards,

Grace Madden

QLD Regional Chair
