Wednesday’s branch meeting wraps up our education meetings for 2018 and what a great night it was. Thank you to those you could attend- for those who were unable to make it, I have attached the slides for your convenience.
Dr Rahul Thomas, a fellow from Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, was our invited guest speaker for the evening and gave a very interesting talk about Paediatric Airway Disorders. Dr Thomas covered a number of airway disorders and he detailed the diagnosis, management and treatment for these. He also included a number of bronchoscopy clips which gave a great insight to what is happening within the lungs of these children suffering from airway disorders.
Next up we had Christopher Lawrence from The Lung Centre in the Gold Coast, who presented a case study on a patient who was suffering from severe COPD secondary to Emphysema. Chris took us through the testing procedures and the treatment plan her doctors prescribed which included Endobronchial Valve Lung Volume Reduction. Chris spoke about how endobronchial valves work and the considerations for its appropriate use. He concluded with the successful outcome of the patient after undergoing her treatment.
