Hello Visitor,
Happy Monday QLDers! I hope this email finds you well.
Thank you to our guest speakers and those who attended our last branch meeting on the 8th of May. We heard from Brooke Wadsworth, an Advanced Physiotherapist working at the PAH who gave an interesting insight to Respiratory Dysfunction in Spinal Cord Injury. We had Maddison Church up next, who spoke about Silicosis pathogenesis, presentation & prevention in light of the current influx of workcover cases coming through our labs in QLD. If you were unable to attend but want to catch up, check out their slides!
In other branch news, there is an upcoming CPET & Prehabilitation Symposium being held in Brisbane this year in November- here is the link for more info: https://www.pshaustralia.com.au/prehab-cpet. Also, keep an eye out for QLD’s contribution for May on the website, which will be published shortly. More info on this and other branch news can be seen on my slides, which I have attached.
At our last meeting we heard the sad news of the recent passing of Dr Stephen Morrison, who was known to a lot of us within the community. I would just like to share with you all a little excerpt about passing of Dr Stephen Mossison, which was kindly shared by Mark Davis. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
It is with great sadness that we reflect on the passing of Associate Professor Stephen Morrison. Stephen was Director of Thoracic and Sleep Disorders Medicine at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, a position he held since 1988, and was also a Medical Director at Genesis Sleep Care. During a long and illustrious career Stephen held several positions with TSANZ, TSQ, was Chair of the Statewide Respiratory Clinical Network and was an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Queensland, just to name a few. Stephen had a passion for physiology and was a great supporter of ANZSRS and respiratory and sleep science in general. Exercise physiology was a keen area of interest for him and formed the basis of his PhD. All those that had the pleasure to work with Stephen will attest to his wonderful nature, enthusiasm for medicine and love of teaching. He was a mentor to many and well-liked by all. Stephen passed away on Thursday the 2nd of May surrounded by his family after a long illness.
I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting, on July 17th.
Kind regards,
Grace
