Hello Visitor,
Last week we held our first branch meeting for 2021. During this meeting we heard from Andrew Southwell from Caboolture Hospital, his presentation was titled; “A romantic walk …. Through the 2019 ATS/ERS Spirometry Guidelines”. Andrew walked us through some of the interesting points written in the Supplementary information and spent time on each component of an acceptable flow volume loop. This consisted of hesitation time, taking a full inspiratory breath and comparing FIVC and FVC, rise time, end of test criteria, zero flow offset and lastly looked at key points from the patient survey conducted by the ATS/ERS.
Next up, we heard from Margaret McElrea who spoke about enhancing the teaching materials used in the Indigenous Health spirometry training program. The research which was conducted for this project aims to combine Western and Aboriginal learning principles to develop materials to enhance teaching of spirometry in the Indigenous health worker Spirometry training program. Margaret went through each teaching style; Western and Aboriginal and how they can be incorporated in Spirometry training.
Lastly, we had one poster submission seeking constructive feedback for the upcoming 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting. The poster was written by Penny Jell from Logan Hospital, titled “Gas diffusion Utility in the Diagnosis and Management of Acute Pulmonary Haemorrhage – a case study”. I have attached the poster for your reference, if you have any feedback please feel free to send it through to qld@anzsrs.org.au and I will pass on all feedback to Penny.
