Hello Visitor,

It is with great pleasure to announce the Pulmonary Function Testing during SARS-CoV-2: An ANZSRS/TSANZ position statement has been finalised and published on Respirology.

The link to the position statement can be found on Respirology here and on the ANZSRS website under ANZSRS publications > Position statements.

In September 2021, the Boards of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science (ANZSRS) prioritised the establishment of a collaborative working group to undertake a rapid review of the literature and propose a practical and reasonable approach for the performance of PFTs during COVID-19 outbreaks in Australian and New Zealand, in any setting i.e. primary and occupational health setting, respiratory laboratories, etc. The advice written in this position statement is intended to supplement local infection prevention and State, Territory or National directives.

This was a huge collaborative effort and I would like to formally thank; Brigitte Borg (Chair), Christian Osdnik, Keith Adams, David Chapman, Catherine Farrow, Vanda Glavas, Kerry Hancock,  Celia Lanteri, Ewan Morris, Nicholas Romeo, Elena Schneider-Futschik and Hiran Selvadurai for all their commitment, dedication and hard work in putting this together over the last year.

For more information regarding the position statement please visit the TSANZ website and register for the upcoming event on the 25th of August, this event will focus on “Pulmonary Function Testing During COVID-19 in the Primary and Occupational Health Settings”. This event is free for ANZSRS members and will be a great opportunity to ask questions and talk with members from the working group. Furthermore, there will be an educational session during the TSANZSRS Education hub being held on the 14th and 15th of October - titled “COVID Update - guidelines in pulmonary function testing and innovations in respiratory function laboratories”.

Thank you,

Rachel Stephens
