Hello Visitor,
Thank you to everyone who attended the branch meeting last Wednesday and to those who joined us virtually from afar. The easing of COVID restrictions in the Brisbane LGA enabled members to enjoy meeting up with local members over a fine dinner at The Loft West End, kindly sponsored by Bird Healthcare. For those who were unable to attend, or could not join the meeting on Zoom, the meeting slides are attached.
A big thanks to our guest speakers, Dr Jon Banks from the Logan hospital and Iain Smith who represented The Prince Charles Hospital.
Dr Jon Banks presented some interesting examples of Airways Diseases demonstrating the association of pathology and flow volume loop characteristics. Iain Smith shared a case study of a cardiac patient typical of the cohort seen by The Prince Charles Hospital deemed high risk for CPET and discussed how the Respiratory Investigations Unit has put procedures in place to minimise these risks.
The branch news highlights from the evening included a reminder to check out the Case of the Month from the Mater Hospital to be available on the website by the end of the month and the recently added Library Corner that was kindly submitted from The Women’s and Children’s Hospital in South Australia.
Members were reminded that the upcoming TSANZSRS Annual Scientific Meeting for 2022 will be virtual and plans are in progress to arrange face to face hubs in each region. Members are advised to watch for updates.
Currently open grants include the ASM Grant that would cover the cost of registration for the ASM and the ANZSRS Advanced Education Grant that provides an opportunity for Respiratory Scientists to further their knowledge and expertise. Applications for both grants close on the 26th November.
This was the last formal meeting for 2021 and members are reminded to RSVP by November 26th for the Christmas party to be held at Happy Boy December 3rd.
