Hello Visitor,

I hope you've all been well and are starting to wind down for the year. Here is a little summary email of the last two Queensland branch events.

Our last Queensland branch meeting for 2022 took place on Friday, November 11 at the Plough Inn. A big thank you to our sponsors for the evening, Bird Healthcare. It was great to see so many members able to attend.

Tamara Blake from Queensland Children’s Hospital delivered a presentation titled ‘Current knowledge gaps in Cystic Fibrosis care and research: what should we focus on?’ Tamara gave an overview of CF before delving into the Early Like Origins of CF (ELO) study. The ELO study is facilitated by the Queensland Cystic Fibrosis Research Program and aims to improve clinical outcome measures across the lifespan and disease severity spectrum in CF, develop biomarkers and clinical indicators to better predict exacerbations and characterize age-related changes in anxiety and resilience in children with CF. Initial findings of the study are promising and are contributing to major improvements to CF care. Krystal Fordyce from the newly established Respiratory Laboratory at Toowoomba Hospital delivered a presentation focused on developing a new service. It was interesting to hear Krystal speak about her experience including the challenges, wins and future direction of the service. I have attached Tamara's and Krystal's slides to this email for anyone wanting a little light holiday reading material.

A couple of weeks ago on Friday, December 9 we held our Queensland Branch Christmas party at Norman Park Bowls thanks to Niche Medical. The evening was a nice opportunity for members to share some Christmas cheer over a couple of drinks, nibbles and (not so great – at least from myself) barefoot bowls.

Penny and I will be meeting early in the New Year to finalise plans for 2023. If anyone would like to volunteer to present at a branch meeting or to prepare a case study or library corner submission, please let me know. As always, we will keep our first meeting reserved for any members presenting at the ASM to practise. Until then, I would like to thank everyone for their contributions and participation in our society throughout the year. I hope everyone has a great festive season and I look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

Best wishes,

Christopher Lawrence
Queensland Regional Chair
