This year the committee would like to offer an opportunity to budding Scientists who have been working on research over the past few years or ready for the challenge and hour to present in front of their peers to put their name forward to speak.

The New Zealand Branch of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science (ANZSRS), invite you to join them for the New Zealand Branch Meeting to be held at The Novotel Hotel, Rotorua from September 20-22, 2023.

We are planning an exciting and informative scientific program, which will be showcasing both international and local New Zealand speakers and their associated research, relevant to our current clinical practice throughout the program.  Already we have secured Professor James Chalmers, Chair of Respiratory Research at the University of Dundee and honorary consultant physician at Ninewells Hospital. His clinical and research interests are in respiratory infections and bronchiectasis and he chairs the EMBARC European Bronchiectasis network. Australian colleagues who will be presenting include Associate Professor Rebecca Disler from Melbourne whose research interests include palliation of advanced and end stage lung disease, improving service delivery, and influences on health behaviours.  Professor Bruce Thompson, past President of TSANZ, is head of Respiratory Services at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and has research interests in the structure and function of small airways. Philippa Cotter is a physiotherapist from Charles Darwin University working in the bronchiectasis space who has published widely regarding health disparities in First Nations Australians.

We have planned a fantastic social program to assist our respiratory community to reconnect in a relaxed atmosphere. Following the success of the 2022 meeting, we are excited to see the return of the paediatric concurrent stream at the NZ Branch Meeting.  Delegates will be made up of the following:  Paediatricians with an interest in respiratory medicine, Respiratory Physicians and Trainees, Nurses, Scientists, Technologists, Physiotherapists and Associated Allied Health Professionals.

As well as the main TSANZ sessions, paediatric stream, and ANZSRS stream we will continue to offer extended sessions including Wednesday’s Nurse/Allied Health and Trainee day. For those of you who don’t have access to good CME allowance we are going to make available several grants to help people attend – keep a look out for more information coming soon.

Following two record years of attendance, it is anticipated the 2023 meeting will reflect similar attendee interest as we continue to see the desire to reconnect in a face-to-face environment.  We look forward to seeing you there.
